Abstract

Background: The impact of decreasing independence in the elderly is that they are more vulnerable to
disease attacks. Family support is defined as verbal, non-verbal information, advice, real help, behavior
from familiar people in the form of presence, concern, willingness and things that can provide emotional
benefits and improve the physical condition of the elderly so as to encourage the elderly to be independent
in fulfilling their needs. daily activities. Objective: to determine the relationship between family support and
the fulfillment of daily living activities for elderly people at the Geriatric polyclinic at the RSUD Sumbawa.
Method: The research design used in this research is an analytical survey. The research was conducted in
October 2023. The number of respondents used was 159 respondents. To determine the relationship between
family support and the fulfillment of Daily Living Activities for elderly people, the Sparman Rank Test was
used. Results: Fulfillment of Daily Living Activities for elderly people in the independent category was
42.1%, light dependency was 6.9%, moderate dependency was 32.7%, heavy dependency was 17.6%, and
full dependency was 6%. Family support for fulfilling Daily Living Activities for elderly with good support
(independent category 44.8%, light dependency 9.2%, moderate dependency 33.3%, heavy dependency
12.6%), sufficient support (independent category 38.6% , light dependency 2.9%, moderate dependency
32.9%, heavy dependency 24.3%, full dependency 1.4%), lack of support (independent category 50%, light
dependency 50%). The research results show a relationship between family support and the independence
of elderly people in fulfilling their daily activities (ρ=0.003). Conclusion: There is a relationship between
family support and the fulfillment of daily living activities for elderly people at the RSUD Sumbawa.
